The 2023 Southern African Humpback whale migration route festivals kicked off with the first talk by Dr Deborah Robertson-Andersson at the festival . This talk informed festival goers about the history of the route and the planned talks for 2023 as well as giving a small taster of the content in the talks about the humpback whales, whaling and freeing whales. NSRI station 6 Port Elizabeth gave a talk on whale disentanglement and lent us some equipment that will be starting the tours with us. This is to help illustrate the what goes into disentangling a whale.
The festival was hosted by The Willows Resort & Conference Centre, Marine Dr, Schoenmakerskop, Gqeberha. This festival has grown from strength to strength and the weather and whales played their part.
