This talk was a first for St Lucia and was hosted by Advantage Tours St Lucia. Advantage Tours have been a trusted tour operator in St Lucia for over 15 years. Advantage tours used the talk as an evening cocktail to thank other hospitality operators in St. Lucia. Wild connections invited 30 students from English universities to attend. NSRI Station 40 St Lucia were also present and showed off all the whale disentanglement equipment as well as talking about the history of whale disentanglements in St Lucia. Advantage tours then took us for a beach ride on the whale train and then an exciting surf lunch into the Isimagaleso marine protected area where we accompanied a humpback on its migration further up the coast. The whale was traveling at about 12 km per hr and was happy to have us next to it for a small part of its journey.
The talk was hosted at the Ocean Grill restaurant and the staff and food were excellent. We were hosted by Mike & Valerie Leibrandt from Oppi Rotse B&B – Self-Catering; soft pillows friendly and accommodating staff (they cooked a fine breakfast after the early morning whale watching trip) made this a very pleasant stay.
